History Unraveled: 1968 Series, Episode One - The Uglier Americans: The Pueblo Crisis and the Tet Offensive
By January of 1968, the United States found itself fighting both a hot and Cold War as the eyes remained fixed on the war torn jungles of Vietnam and tensions continued to escalate between the United States and the Soviet Union. In the first episode of History Unraveled: 1968, Brian Wilson and Thurman Storing discuss tow international incidents, the Pueblo Crisis (a tense year-long standoff involved in the capture of a United States spy vessel by communist North Korea) and the Tet Offensive (a series fo bloody north Vietnamese attacks within South Vietnam). These crucial moments defined American international policy and altered political, media, and public perceptions toward military intervention in Southeast Asia.
History Unraveled: 1968 is a continuing series of podcasts analyzing the year 1968, which many historians have dubbed a "watershed" year in American history. The podcast focuses on the social, political, and cultural events of 1968 and their influence in their own time and beyond. Join both Brian, Thurman, and other guests monthly for a fresh and exciting look at a defining time in modern American history.
